HERO is proud to announce Shezad Dawoods participation at the first Toronto Biennial of Art - Leviathan : The Cod Trap
Leviathan Episode 5: Ismael is the most recent episode in Shezad Dawood’s epic Leviathan film series. Its North American premiere will take place this month at the Toronto Biennial and the Museum of Contemporary Art Toronto (MOCA). This episode was made possible through a Canadian partnership between Fogo Island Arts, Tale of a Tub, Rotterdam, MOCA and Toronto Biennial of Art. It was partly shot on Fogo Island, where the artist also recently undertook a month-long residency hosted by Fogo Island Arts. As part of this residency Dawood developed a series of accompanying textile paintings with local artisans, which will be exhibited alongside Episode 5 in his Toronto Biennial presentation.
About the Toronto Biennal of art
The Toronto Biennial of Art is a new international contemporary visual arts event as culturally connected and diverse as the city itself. From September 21 to December 1, Toronto and surrounding areas will be transformed by exhibitions, talks, and performances that reflect our local context while engaging with the most pressing issues of our time. In an effort to make contemporary art available to everyone, the Biennial’s free, citywide programs aim to inspire individuals, bridge communities, and contribute to global conversations from a variety of perspectives.
